Six Senses are converting a 14th -century fortress in Rajasthan, India into a luxury hotel with spa due to open at the end of 2021. Fort Barwara is 68 miles southeast of Jaipur located in the village of Chauth ka Barwara on the site of a 700-year-old fort. This fort was owned by the Rajasthani royal family and is opposite the temple, Chauth ka Barwara Mandir. Thirty minutes from the Ranthambhore National Park, famous for its tiger population, Six Senses Fort Barwara will be offering daily safari drives into the 540-square-mile park. A team of conservation experts is leading the design team to preserve and protect the original fort structure to transform it into a 48-suite luxury hotel. The 5.5-acre site is surrounded by an imposing thick rock 6-metre high wall. There are three buildings inside the fort that traditionally accommodated the common, men’s and women’s palaces and two temples which are all being preserved and restored.

The fort faces the local village to the west and protected land that will be reforested to the east. Six Senses Fort Barwara will have two restaurants, a bar and sitting room, spa and fitness centre, two swimming pools (one indoor and one outdoor), a shop and a kids club.

The landscape design will reinterpret the gracious and regal ambience that was historically experienced at Rajasthan’s royal forts and palaces. Rooted in the areas rich culture of the fort and area, the design will include traditional gardens and water features. Shekhawati art will be used to depict the rich history of Fort Barwara in the landscape.
