The Gin Trap Inn, North Norfolk

Steeped in rich history, The Gin Trap Inn has been serving farmers, traders, fishermen, and smugglers since 1668. Nestled in the charming village of Ringstead, just a stone’s throw from the breathtaking North Norfolk coast, this iconic 17th-century coaching inn now offers a uniquely luxurious stay. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, The Gin Trap welcomes everyone with open arms—families, couples, and even dogs. It’s the perfect blend of tradition and comfort, offering a delightful country escape from the everyday. It’s in a great location, just 10 minutes from the expanse of Brancaster beach and the Thornham Deli. Brancaster Staithe is further along with some great restaurants and a little further is Burnham Market with its independent shops, cafés and restaurants.

Step inside and you’ll immediately feel the warmth of the cosy bar, complete with its traditional nooks and crackling fireplace. Expect a great atmosphere, with local banter and friendly service from a team who clearly love what they do. The 14 rooms and cottages are beautifully designed for couples looking for a romantic retreat, while the two-bedroom cottages—each with a fully-equipped kitchen, sitting room, and outdoor area—offer families or those seeking extra privacy a perfect home away from home. And don’t forget the welcome G&T, along with tea, coffee, milk, and biscuits (yes, even for your dog!).

The food at The Gin Trap is simply exceptional. From hearty British favourites like sticky toffee pudding and homemade pies, served in the pub or conservatory, to the more refined à la carte fine dining experience in the restaurant. With his passion for local produce and creative flair, Executive chef Gareth Rayner has truly elevated the dining experience, making it one of East Anglia’s must-visit spots. If sticky toffee pudding isn’t on the à la carte menu, just ask—they’ll happily oblige. The Gin Trap is more than just a place to stay—it’s a destination, where unforgettable memories are made.

Rating: 9/10 (would have been a 10/10 had there been flannels, cotton wool and matches to light the candles)

Why Stay? Great location and delicious food, from the pub menu with burgers and fries to the fine dining menu, including gin and tonic oysters.
